Post Purchase Program

Want to learn more about taking care of your home?

First Homes has a post purchase home maintenance education program for home owners who have purchased a home through the Community Land Trust (CLT) Program. This program is free to you as a CLT home owner.

The program consists of an inspector doing at home maintenance training for you as a home owner. Training content is geared to your house and your abilities as it is reviewed with you by the inspector. A booklet is given to you that addresses basic maintenance on your home and the seasons it need to be performed. The inspector will review the seasonal list with you, going over the maintenance items that should be completed. The inspector will also answer any questions you might have.

The Preventative Maintenance Certificate is provided in your closing documents and is good for one (1) free maintenance training session from one (1) of the inspectors listed on the certificate. You will need to:

  • Contact an inspector to arrange a date and time they can come to your home.
  • Present the certificate to the inspector when he arrives at your home.
  • Make sure you and the inspector sign and date the certificate after the training session is completed.
  • Give the inspector the certificate to return to First Homes.
  • Keep a copy of the Maintenance Checklist that the inspector reviewed with you.

We hope you will take advantage of this educational experience because taking time for preventive maintenance allows home owners to plan ahead, save time and money, and most of all become better home owners. Preventive maintenance will also extend the useful life of your home's systems and equipment, and by routinely inspecting the house, little problems can be fixed before they get to be big, expensive problems.
